This is really awesome. Wounder how the idea came up.

“Most newspapers are stuck in the late 20th century formulas, scarcely varied across the country, for section concepts (even names) and types of coverage. These conventions, moreover, carry over into digital forms, and only in the past couple of years have we begun to see new forms made only for digital channels. Amid legitimate struggle in newsrooms to make this outdated formula work with vastly reduced staffs and greatly increased production demands, there’s not enough attention on creative breakthroughs — the kind of conceptual innovation needed today. What should a print edition do in a 24/7 news world? How is it differentiated from other platforms in content, format and organization?”

A great solution / Bra recept för mediehus med tomma lokaler

“PMN isn’t offering up a couch to crash on purely out of the kindness of its heart: As a condition of the incubator they get an early look at whatever apps, tools, or projects the teams are working on”, berättar Nieman Journalism Lab.

GRAFIK-TREND?

Find inspiration beyond journalistic design

Every day you’re seeing the culture because you are reporting on it or thinking about it for the pages you design or the apps you conceive or the code you deploy. You are on the front lines. Don’t retreat to the safe sphere of the known. Branch out. See beyond.

Design communicates and that feeds into how we behave, how we find things (or don’t). What will someone do with something you make? Design for experience. Read his article.

“Newspaper organizations (in the US) are banding together under an organization titled NewsRight to license and profit from the spread of their content online.

Första sammankomsten hölls i Hong Kong i november 2011. Där var “fusion journalists” det nya modeordet.

“Journalists used to specialize by format. Fusion journalists have areas of expertise but their specialty is collaboration and innovation.”

“We’re breaking down the barriers between us and our audience. It’s essential if we are to survive,” förklarade Garrett Goodman, (Citizenside’s international coordinator).
